Art Show and Pony Rides at Wisner-Rapp House
- Charlestown Village
In the "National Register Village", you may tour the historic Woolen Mill, the basis for the village being formed in the early 1700s. You may also tour the Charlestown United Methodist Church (1830s), and the beautiful gardens of village resident Nancy Long.
- Wisner/Rapp House and Charlestown Art Show
The Wisner/Rapp House is the home and headquarters of the Charlestown Historical Society (CHS). CHS is celebrating its 40th Anniversary on Community Day. The National Register house and integrated saddle shop will feature Jacob Wisner (re-enactment) and his wife explaining Jacob's part in the American Revolution. You may tour the house, and in the saddle shop, enjoy an Art Show where Charlestown artists will be displaying their works. Some area students will also be exhibiting their art work. There will also be Pony Rides at the Wisner-Rapp House (see below).
- Great Valley Nature Center
Now in its 39th year, the Great Valley Nature Center has a long and proud history of serving the surrounding community with programs that increase awareness and appreciation of the natural environment. GVNC features Birds of Prey, a simulated Lenape Village, pond and wetlands, snakes on display, springhouse and spring flowers. You can also learn about their many programs and summer camps offered by the Center.
- Community Garden at Brightside Farm
Brightside Farm, purchased by Charlestown Township in two segments (20.5 acres in 1997 and 55 acres in 2000), is the site of the Brightside Farm Community Garden. Started in the spring of 2003 with 12 fenced plots with on-site water supply, the garden was expanded last year to 50+ plots, all of which are currently "rented" by area residents to grow whatever they want. June 1st will be an ideal time to visit the garden with may plots displaying beautiful flowers in addition to many vegetables. Sid and Marguerite Buck, volunteer managers of the Community Garden, will take you on a tour of the garden.
- Devault Quarry
Many people have driven by the Devault Quarry (Independence Quarry) without knowing what really goes on in that big hole in the ground and where the stone removed from the site goes and how it is used. A tour guide will explain the operation of the quarry and the many products produced there.
An Art Show of mostly new art of Scenes of Charlestown by local artists will be on display in the Saddle Shop portion of the Wisner-Rapp House. This house, the headquarters of the Charlestown Historical Society, is one of the stops on the Narrated Bus Tour, and is located on Yellow Springs Road, across from the DeerField Development and surrounded by Brightside Farm. The Art Show is curated by Christine Merryman.
Pony Rides will also be available at the Wisner-Rapp House from 2-4 pm. Children may ride small or large ponies near the open fields of Brightside Farm. Parking is available near the Wisner-Rapp House if you choose to drive to the Wisner-Rapp House instead of arriving via a tour bus. (See #13 on the map included with these Charlestown Day links for the precise location of the Wisner-Rapp House.)
Directions to Charlestown Township Park
Charlestown Township Park is entered from Township Line Road. It also borders Coldstream Road in the northwest corner of our Township. Take Charlestown Road toward Phoenixville and make a left turn at the Stables Bar and Grill onto Coldstream Road. Make the next right at Township Line Road and then the first right into the Park. See the top-left corner of the Bus Tour Map for the park location.
